40th Anniversary ( Friday June 3/11 to Sunday June 5/11)

Friday Evening

5:00 pm the tent is up ,the rain is coming down and the porta potties have been delivered...the weekend begins. Softball started at 7:00 and finished in the beer gardens. Later that evening we had some local entertainers sing their hearts out, old friends, new friends came by to say hi. The dance has been sold out for days and people are looking for extra tickets.

Midnight Security has arrived to guard the tent, we close down the  beer gardens and we all go home.

Saturday Morning

8:00 am and the jumpy things have arrived, there is calmness in the air as we are in day 2 of the event. Softball is going to start again. Burgers are cooking on the BBQ and kids are having fun. Someone dropped off 4 bags of water balloons for the water fight as I wonder if anybody is going to show. The rain has stopped and the birds are singing.

Saturday Evening

4:00 pm the hall looks great for the dance time to close up the beer gardens and close down the kids events. Supper is about to start and I am nervous as I have to speak to hundreds of people, what am I going to say.

5:00 pm guests are arriving and Terry and myself greet everyone that walk through the door, grandparents, parents, teenagers and kids all at one event, I am so proud to see the great turn out.  Supper is about to start I can smell the great food, the hall is full of excitement.

6:15 pm Grace is said by Terry(great job) and supper begins, tables with kids get to eat first...

7:00 pm We are loosing track of time, we introduce our special guest Janice, Peter and Gord, the Mayor is unable to attend but wishes us luck . Dave Luscombe our historian will share stories of the past and introduce the founding board members who started the community in a small shack.

8:00 pm the hypnotist is looking for people to volunteer, oops you have to be 12 or older, after some preparation he finds his volunteers, it was the funniest thing I have ever seen and the crowd is having fun, my good friend Kyle has lost his belly button and Terry's daughter is on the hunt for the hypnotist. Charlie Sheen has stopped by for a visit. Several hundred dollars is raised for the Edmonton Humane Society.

10:30 pm and the dance starts, butterfly, macarana, chicken dance, thriller and polka  what a great selection of music. Drinks are served and everyone is dancing.. WOW 4 generations are dancing to the same song, its like a family wedding from my past.. its going great.

1:30 am the dance is over and the kids want more, but we have a big day tomorrow so the party ends.

Sunday Morning

6:00 am the sausages are cooking in the oven and we are getting ready for the pancake breakfast.

7:00 am its sunny out so we set up outside and over 250 people show up in the morning, another great success.

11:00 am the candy toss starts and the kids go crazy.

Sunday Afternoon

High noon: Water sheriffs have been sworn in to guard the balloons and the parents are escorted to to the battle grounds , all the kids are by the fence being supervised by Constable Collin, there is excitement in the  air and the parents line up 400- 500 balloons in a straight line... The water sheriffs take a stand and vow to soak any one who tries to grab a balloon while the parents hide in the skating rink. 1 , 2, 3, go and the mayham begins ... Balloons are flying everywhere, kids are screaming, ouch I just got hit in the head with one, I grab 6 bags of balloons and run to the parents, now the parents are in the fight. I look over and the kids are all over the water sheriffs as they try to capture the water guns..

The fight is over, no one got hurt and a little kid gives me big hug and says thank for the fun time while his mom pats me on the back and smiles.

2:00 pm the fire men arrive to show of the fire truck (my girls go crazy as the fire guys are cute) softball is in the final game as McLeod wins the tournament.
5:00 pm the weekend is over and the committee and special  friends gather in the beer tent to talk about the weekend, its over, it was great success, 700 + people attend the event and I am proud of the team for the great weekend.
